Infinity is a 6-issue comic book limited series crossover event published by Marvel Comics. The series is written by Jonathan Hickman who, if you're not familier with, we'd more than happy in showing you what he has written because they are fantastic.
It's not a stretch to say he's THE hottest writer in comics right now.

The story involves Thanos attacking Earth while the Avengers are in space uniting the universe against the Builders, a group of aliens who will "remake" Earth.
The event will crossover with Hickman's Avengers and New Avengers books, with two different perspectives being told in each book. Avengers will follow the Avengers while they are in space recruiting various alien races to fight against the Builders with Nova and the Guardians of the Galaxy, while New Avengers will detail Thanos' attack on Earth and the heroes left behind to deal with him.
The greatest threat to the Mad Titan’s work—and perhaps the universe’s greatest hope—is something he created leaving no world safe. Earth’s last hope may lie in the hands of a man who can level cities with a single whisper – Black Bolt, king of the Inhumans. But can the fearsome leader of a race hated and feared by his world, lead his people against Thanos? If they fall, so does the Earth—and the entire universe with it.

Axel Alonso, Marvel's Editor-In-Chief, said "We’ve said 'Nova,' 'Thanos Rising,' 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and Jonathan Hickman’s 'Avengers' are all shaping the future of the Marvel Universe.

While reading Infinity #1, readers will notice that there is narrative text sprinkled through the comic in each chapter. Sometimes this narrative appears with a blue background, sometimes with a black background designed to stand out from the artwork and keep the reader on track. This is used sparingly, but consistently, and the explanations are pared down to essential back-story, particularly defining the different teams and races involved in the developing conflicts. This actually makes it possible to have never read any of Hickman’s work on Avengers or New Avengers and still read and follow Infinity #1

Like Marvel’s movies, it is designed for the casual reader as well as the very knowledgeable fan. It has to strike a fine balance between keeping long-time Marvel readers satisfied with the intricacy of its story and keeping the door open for new readers to step on board. Other event comics have attempted to do this to a lesser degree in the past, but Infinity actually delivers in this respect.
