I've always thought, why in the world would I be miserable if I had super powers?
Or got to hangout with Iron Man and Thor in a Penthouse?
I get Peter Parker has problems, but come on! Dump that high maintenance redhead and have some fun.
You better have hit the jackpot, Tiger, because she's a model with expensive tastes and is prone to being upset at the drop of a secret identity.

Let's also don't forget dark, edgy and brooding.
Now, Batman aside, dark and edgy is easy to write. You put an innocent in danger, a child or mother usually, add some violence and then, enter the hero, who has a hard time focusing on the present because he's spending so much time flashbacking to the past.
(shut up. "flashbacking" is now a word)

DC's new 52 seems to be teeming with dark and brooding. So much so, they couldn't even write Justice League International with the original creators.
With the exception of Harley Quinn, DC's answer to Deadpool sales, I'm hard pressed to find a little fun in hero books.

Now don't get me wrong, I like a good, deep story with plenty of dark and brooding, but every now and then, you've got to lighten up and have some fun.

That's why I am loving Marvels new direction with a few of it's books.
SECRET AVENGERS started off as a "Justice League Extreme" team with a little fun but more focused on serious threats to the Earth.
Now, it's taken a turn, adding Agent Coulson to the mix, Spider-Woman, Fury, Black Widow and Hawkeye are out saving the world, but the writers are understanding that these are also just normal people trying to do good.
The art matches the action, a hint I'm assuming taken from the best selling Hawkeye comic.

Speaking of which, HAWKEYE, one of the best selling comics last year, is the same way. Just a fun read. The art is spectacular and the writing top notch and real. There's not much more I can add about this title that wasn't said for Secret Avengers.

If Avengers aren't your cup of tea, then do yourself a favor and check out the lighter DAREDEVIL.
Daredevil was mostly famous for it's hard story telling, dark material and heavy Catholic backgrounds, but now, it's taking a little break form those.
Matt Murdoch has told the world he is Daredevil after being asked to tell the truth in a court of law.
He's moved to California and tried to start a new life there, excepting he's a lawyer by day and super hero by night.

It's not as light as Secret Avengers and still has it's series moments, but Daredevil is a guy who understands he's a famous hero and has come to terms with it, having a little fun along the way.

So do yourself a favor. Turn off the news, put down the newspaper and enjoy a nice easy read with these titles.

Listen and read the 1940's adventures of Martin's Raiders
