Merlyn's is hosting a Warhammer 40k tournament on Sunday, June 20th! Lists will be 1500 points, and signups will start at 10:00. There will be a $5 entry fee that will be added to the prize pool, which begins at $50. Please be in the store before 10:30 to register.

Some general rules:
-Warhammer 40,000 5th Edition Rules will be used.
- Rules and Army Lists marked as ‘Trial’ or ‘Optional’ are not allowed. Unofficial rules sets are not allowed. In addition, the Following are NOT legal for the 40K Tournament:
Armored Company (Any Variation)
- Specific Zone fighting rules will NOT be in effect – Including Jungle Fighting or City Fighting.
- The models used in your army must be Games Workshop Miniatures.
- What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG). If you wish to use an item, it must be represented on the figure. Each figure must be fitted to the base supplied for the figure in its blister or box. Only Vehicles may be without a base.
- You must bring all materials needed to play including dice, templates, measuring devices, templates, models, calculators, and any rules that you will be using. If the Codex is available for your army you must have it with you at all times. You must also have the latest version of the FAQ for your army, available from the Games Workshop website. Each player should also bring at least 3 objective markers on 40mm bases.
- Each player must provide their opponent during each round a copy of their army list.
- All Tournament missions are considered ‘Standard’ for Space Marine Drop Pod special rules.
- In order to keep the Tournament running on schedule, when time is called for a round, all players must drop their dice and stop playing – no exceptions. Because of this, please be aware of the time left in the round and do not start a full turn you cannot finish. At a minimum, a 30-minute warning will be called by the Judge.
- If illegal units or Tournament rules violations are found in a player’s list, at a minimum, the models in violation will be removed from all subsequent play. Please check with Tournament judges prior to the event for any questions in advance.
- All rulings by the Tournament judges will be final.
- If a model is listed in an official GW Codex and it does not have a GW figure available for it, you may use an appropriate scratch-built model or conversion to represent it. Otherwise, you must use an appropriate GW or ForgeWorld model to represent the unit in question.

Games, Scoring, and Prizes

- There will be 3 rounds in the Tournament, with each round consisting of one two-hour game.

Hey I only have a 1410 point list as of now, would I still be able to play, or does it have to be 1500? Also, is this a good idea? These tournaments sound a lot more serious than FOW and other games.

Thanks,

Evan Moore

Evan, a short list is always acceptable, so long as it fits the standard force organisation chart. Though it might put you at a disadvantage, you should still be able to pull off a good game.

Don't be daunted by my ruleset, as it sounds a lot stricter than it really is. I use it to set a kind of universal policy so that no one is surprised by a ruling during an event. Remember that The Most Important Rule really is what its title suggests, and if you're keeping to the spirit of the tournament rules we're very likely to overlook violations of the letter.

As for the seriousness of the event, we do offer prizes, which means that some games can get quite competitive. My events are probably quite a bit different from casual gaming sessions in any system. However, most of our players are primarily looking for a good game of 40k and I've had very good experiences with the sportsmanship of our players. Even if you aren't winning every game, I think our tournaments are a good opportunity to meet other players and experience armies that you might not see in your playgroup.

Finally, what army are you planning on bringing? I know with a majority of the codices you can usually squeeze out a good number of extra points using upgrades that require little to no modeling and can be generally useful. If you're lucky, I might even be able to scrounge up a unit to fill out your list. If you'd like, stop by the store Friday or Saturday afternoon and I'll take a look at your list and show you the types of missions you're likely to encounter on Sunday.

Thanks for the detailed response, it is much appreciated!

I have figured out my list, and found a way to bring it to 1500 (Realized I could take 2 HQ's). Its a SM list, its very basic and will not do well, but like I said I just want to learn, meet some players, and have fun.

List:

2 Captains
3 Tactical Squads (2 Black Reach, one with Missile and Plasma)
9 Terminators
5 Man assault squad
2 Dreds (One Flamer)

I believe this is what I decided on, I do not have the list with me right now. All the models I own as of now, but not for too long Wink

Looks good, you've got plenty of scoring units and a fair bit of role flexibility with your choices. See you Sunday, and good luck!

Hey, I lost my phone recently, and therefore I lost all of my contacts. I was wondering if you Bret's cell or house phone number? I am supposed to game with him tommorow, but I do not know where he lives, and I have no way of contacting him.
