So what's the best thing about Christmas?
Not even that.
It's getting stuff you wanted for yourself but didn't really want to pay for.
Oh, yeah. Giving too.
It's that giving thing as well.
But beyond that, here's a list of things I think would make cool Christmas gifts for people (or you. I won't tell.).
It is a period of Civil War.
The spaceships of the rebels, striking swift
From base unseen, have gain'd a vic'try o'er
The cruel galactic Empire
Star Wars Shakespeare edition is the best thing for people who not only geeks, but classical geeks.
You're gonna get killed chasing after your damn fortune and glory!
Fortune and Glory is the closet thing you can play to be Indiana Jones.
There are so many different ways to play, even by yourself, that it's new everytime.
Beat the Nazi's and win the day!
Fortune and Glory has a lot of miniatures, a pound of cards and cool tokens. It's extremely well made and built to last the test of time.
So later on, some archaeologist will find it near your skeleton years later.
A captain's goal was simple: find a crew, find a job, keep flying.
Firefly the game has you in command of your own ship. Pick a crew, pick a job and don't get eaten.
A long time ago...
Ah! You know the rest.
Star Wars X-Wing is not only a great game, but one of the main mechanics is, the ships are all built the same scale. Basically, the Millennium Falcon is the size it would compared to the X-Wings and everything else built for the game, so it's also a collectors dream.
The ships are really well done and come with stands to put them on your desk and bug your co-workers.
Heroclix is a lot like the Star Wars X-Wing game.
Even if you don't play, the figures are really well done and loads of fun to just collect.
In Heroclix, heroes and villains fight each other in the same universe. So Superman could fight Doctor Octopus or even Captain America. You control the figure and its actions. A fun, easy game to learn.
I can't explain how much I love the book NOVA. If you're a fan of Last Starfighter, Goonies, Super 8, you'll love this book.
When Sam Alexander comes home from school to find his father missing, Sam accidentally injures himself and wakes up in a hospital. There, he is greeted by Rocket Raccoon and Gamora, who reveal Sam's father really was in the Nova Corps!
It's a great book and told really well. The graphic novel holds the first 5 issues.
Marvel Season One novels are great one-shot re-tellings of origins. So if you have someone who likes Thor, but doesn't keep up on every comic, these books are a great gift idea. You don't need to know everything about the character, just enough to have fun.
“But it was, it was a better life. I don’t mean all the traveling
and seeing aliens and spaceships and things. That don’t matter. The
Doctor showed me a better way of living your life. You don’t just give
up. You don’t just let things happen. You make a stand. You say ‘no.’
You have the guts to do what’s right when everyone else just runs
away!” - Rose Tyler
This does not need a write up. You just need one.
I will write the disclaimer right now. Read it well.
The Walking Dead comics ARE NOT like the tv show.
They are more graphic, more intense and more disturbing than the tv show.
That said, they are freaking awesome and a must have for zombie fans.
So there you have it. Christmas gifts, all at 10% off, that you can for someone.
Whether they've been naughty or nice.
