If you have kept up on the Flames of War site, you know that the new rule book will be out first week of July, along with the combined Russian front Book-Ostfront and a Africa-Sicily Book. These will combine the other books in one book for each front. The new rules and changes in costs and abilities will be in all books. The people I have talked to say they like the changes in the rules but it does make it a different game. Much more combined arms. In a month we will know.

Will the new rules be essential to have or are they just optional?

Thanks

From what they tell me the rules will be a must, but the campaign books are optional. They say you can cut and paste the campaign books to the army lists now, but the rules are really updated and changed. They say it will be a different game with different tactics needed.

Well, this is really bad news for me. How much will a new one cost?

Or can i just trade my old one in for a new one? thanks

We will have the 160 page "mini" rulebook replacements for anyone that bought their rulebook from Merlyn's. There will be a 200+ page regular rulebook for sale as well.

The replacement will be free for Merlyn's customers. I don't know the cost on the big, regular version. But we will give a 20% off trade-in on the old rule book towards the big, regular version.

Merlyn,

I thought BF announced that anyone could pick up a free copy of the rules from any LGS as long as each person gave the LGS advanced notice so the store could get enough copies from BF for free. I could be wrong on this.

As for whether or not the new rules are essential, as part of the proofreading team that has worked on the new rules, I can only say that the game will be different but better. As with anything it will be up to each person to decide what they like.

You will need a copy of the second edition rules. I think BF will be providing a PDF download for free to paste in the new points and abilities of all the units from the old intel handbooks. But I would recommend buying the new Eastern front and Afrika books as they will be much cheaper than buying all the individual intel handbooks and have more and new company listings in them..

I wish I could tell all of you more than that, but I have signed agreements that I wouldn't. I am not a paid employee of BF, I volunteered my services. Nothing I say is official or is anything more than my opinion. I hope all of you like what the BF team has done with Second edition and the new Front Books.

Good Luck,

Chris

EDIT-

PS.

Someone sent me a private message but it didn't go through. The website says pm's don't work.

Hey All,

We got the word from Battlefront. We will have the 160 page "mini" rulebook free for eschange for the old rule book. All you have to do is bring the old one in and exchange it for the new.

We are also offering anyone that does this exchange a 20% discount on the 240 page, hardcover "real" rulebook as a service.
Thanks

Merlyn,

Is this correct:

All you have to do is bring the old one in and exchange it for the new.

Or do you mean:

All you have to do is show us your old book, let us stamp it and then we will give you a new edition of the mini rule book for free?

You do not need a reciept. And I have not heard anything about stickes. Battlefront is gone to origins this week, but we should have clarity next week.

I wonder how all you guys lived from warhammer always making new Edditions of the rules? Making a 2nd E for a miniatures war game makes everyone so confused!
