Myself and another one to three players are looking to possibly either start up or join a D&D 3.0 Oriental Adventures campaign (Legend of the Five Rings). At this stage we’re simply looking to find other interested persons. Why 3.0? Well, AD&D is relatively too complex and 3.5 is arguably too watered down.

I have been playing D&D since AD&D (2nd Ed) and have 10 years of casual D&D/Shadowrun gaming experience. I have been both a player and DM. Due to time restraints (law school and work), I would much rather play than DM, but because I am finicky with spending my scarce free time, I will likely end up DM’n. My friends and I prefer DM ran campaigns where the DM actually creates or places us into a dynamic world, and actually takes the time to create substantive plots and quests/adventures. Our experience with player-ran campaigns has been disastrous. In our experience with player-ran campaigns, we have wasted countless hours under a DM who did no content planning and instead merely showed up to each session with a handful of dice. Said DM didn’t even bother to develop a novice understanding of the D&D rules, which endlessly frustrated us.

As a group, we range in age from 20 to 24 and we all work. Saturdays are ideal for us, with a start time around 1pm and end time around 8pm (possibly later, depending on the mood of the group). We'll probably have to settle for 2x a month sessions, due time restraints. We enjoy player-to-player feuds and devious plots. Largely, we game as a jovial social event, but we do love dark, cerebral, philosophical, and treacherous sessions.

Concerning the proposed campaign, we are considering using primarily the Oriental Adventures supplement, but will include many other source books and supplements. We’re all a little tired with Western fantasy, so we’d love a L5R campaign, which we all know little of. We’re looking at a starting level of five or six. We have been away from D&D for around a year, so the first few sessions will likely be a little crude, rule wise.

If any of this sounds interesting, please respond and indicate your preference to being DM or player. At this time we are still in the beginning phase of constructing a group, so we have no concrete start date.

Rob
