Sunday at 10 a.m. some of us are going to get together and play some FoW games. Just normal missions and such with the usual MW forces. I am bringing Germans and Soviets. Bill is bringing US armor and mech infantry and Ben is bringing Italians.

Everyone else is welcome to show up and play. Hope to see you all on Sunday.

Chris

ooops put 18th, meant the 11th.

Well,

We had a great game. Sean Curl came into the light and made it down. Bill showed up and a new player came to Merlyn's and played with us. David Binford brought some American armor and Rangers and combined with Bill's American armor attacked Sean and I.

The two US players attacked down a 4'x10' map board. There were three bridges. If the US captured and held the first bridge the game was a draw. If they took two bridges it was a minor US victory and if they took all three bridges it was a Major US victory.

Sean's Grenadiers defended the Bridge. My pzgren's were in Reserve. Sean had a standard HQ, 2 full gren platoons (no lt. mortars, with panzerknackers), an HMG platoon, a 4 str Marder platoon, full mortars, full 105's and 2 rof 3 88's.

He held the HMG's and the Marders in ambush. He set up his 88's 36" back from the first bridge. His mortars and 105's had range enough to cover 6" in front of the first bridge. He had one platoon of infantry with CO in woods on the left flank and one platoon with 2iC in the woods on the right flank. In position to stop infantry, assault tanks or counterattack the first bridge.

The US faced us with 11 Shermans, 11Lee's, 5 Stewarts, 6 priests, 2 ranger platoons, ranger mortar platoon, armored infantry platoon and engineer platoon.

The German's had a pzgren force in reserve(motorized) with HQ in staff cars, 2 pz gren platoons in trucks, 2 stug F's, 3 pz4F1, 2 pz4H and 2 rof3 88's.

Truth be told, my force was not needed as Sean's brilliant use of smoke and his Marders and 88's tore the allied tanks to shreds. He used his marder ambush perfectly and had them appear in trees at 14" away. They fired 8 rounds and 4 tanks were either killed or bailed, the 88's let loose with 6 shots and 3 more joined the dead. He then stormtrooped his Marders, without bailing a single one back into the woods away from counterfire.

German 105's fired for no effect and the mortars smoked the other half of the armored force just in front of the bridge.

The onslaught stunned the American armored commanders and they milled about. Staying just out of range of the 88's. Unfortunately, the armor in the smoke didn't bother to worry about the 88's so they got chewed up next round. As the Marders, moved out from behind the woods and let loose with 4 more rounds. The 105's targeted an observer in a jeep and the jeep commanding the M10's and caught a pair of Shermans under the template as well. Killing the recon jeep and carbine team and both Shermans. The observer saved and promptly got out of his jeep and hid next round.

So by two rounds of firing the Americans had lost a Sherman Platoon and a Stewart platoon due to low morale and over 50% losses. By round four their were only 2 Shermans left alive and 4 Lee's. The Marders and one of the 88's were dead.

The Rangers and Engineers started moving up fast. In the end, a stalemate developed over the dry gorge the first bridge was across. The US pulled tanks back abit and covered the advance of the infantry.

On the last turn, the Rangers finally made it across the bridge and secured a draw. The Americans learning from the Germans, then smoked the HMG's blocking all los to the bridge, stopping 37 shots from the Germans. This left the recapture of the bridge and bridgehead solely upto the Grenadiers hiding in the trees.

Both German platoons charged out of the trees and were promptly decimated by concentrated lmg fire on one flank and the last two remaining shermans combined with the Rangers managed to drive back the other Grenadiers.

It was a well fought draw. The allies lost 9 Shermans, 11 Lee's, 5 Stewarts, 2 HT's, 2 jeeps and assorted infantry and gun teams. The Germans lost the first bridge, 4 Marders, an 88 and a lot of infantry and an HMG.

In two weeks if everyone comes back it will be the German's turn to counterattack to throw the Americans out of their bridgehead.

That was a lot of fun today. Thanks everyone for making it interesting on the spur of the moment.

Hope to see all of you next Sunday for Terry's scenario.

Chris
