Oh, I don't mean YOUR child.
No, no, no. Your child is perfectly fine.
A beautiful child.
I'm talking about that other kid.
Ya, that's it. The other kid.

Here at Merlyns, it's tough finding books that little kids will read.
Some are too wordy, some not wordy enough.
Some have to many hard words, some not enough.
Some subjects just aren't fun for them.

Well here's 4 monster books that we have that I thought need to be looked at a little better if they like their monsters!

The first one is P.T.A. Night.

This is a silent double-page illustrations that tell the tale of the Austintown Middle School on the eve of one of its monthly PTA meetings. No words so here's the weird part.
It's ok for kids who can't read, but there are some zombies and skeletons, so it may scare them.
It's one of those "your call" books, but illustrations are done with fun.
The book almost plays out like a flip book as different panels all change the further you go.
It's a lot of fun and well worth the look.

The next book is SKETCH MONSTERS.

Mandy is an eight-year old who has trouble expressing her emotions, no matter if circumstances are happy, joyful, sad or painful. The day Mandy's sister leaves home for higher studies, she gives Mandy a sketch book. No sooner does her sister leave than the little girl heads over to her favourite spot and sketches a whole lot of monsters. Later, in the night, Mandy finds that her monsters are missing. What happens next is this little girl's journey to learning how to express whatever she feels without any inhibitions. The story-teller, Joshua Williamson, wants to let children know that it is okay to feel happiness, joy, anger, fear and pain. These emotions are what make a person whole and complete. The little Mandy at the end of the story is so completely different from the Mandy of the beginning.

This book is for 7-10 year olds. Though the main character is a girl, which boys might not like, they'll stay for the monsters, so it should appeal to any kid.

A cute book with a great message.

Next is LOLA: A GHOST STORY

Lola is a Filipino graphic novel about a Canadian-raised boy, Jesse, who returns to his family’s homeland when his maternal grandmother passes away.
Jesse can see ghosts, but so could his grandmother, who become a local hero.
The Paranormal plays a big part in this book, but its not overly used.
There are some scary parts for younger readers and the book deals with some heavy things.
A great book that's a little different from the norm.

Last but not least is MONSTER MESS.

Peter and Jean are two kids who discover they can do something incredible - when they draw a monster on paper, it comes to life! First they create a monster named Oko, who jumps off the page and proceeds to make one huge monster mess! There can be only one solution: draw a good monster. That's where Kriss comes in. With three legs, four arms, and ten mouths, can he defeat Oko? Well read it and find out.
Kids will love the monster illustrations in this book, not to mention the imagination that the kids in the book use.
A fun book you should check out.
