You know... I have never been able to understand why Reaper's Warlord game has never taken off around here. Pretty much everybody who role-plays has at least a couple lying around from old characters and most war-gamers have spent time drooling over the Warlord line and thinking of potential conversions they could create. Thus, it seems like a natural winner.

Alright, I'll concede that the name rather lacks inspiration, but the content itself is there in loads. The other day, I found myself perusing the core book again and remembered just how much is packed in there.

-A generous amount of fluff told about each faction.
-Several pages of painting advise for making the most of the beautiful range of pewter minis.
-A flexible system for custom designing troops as well as using premade soldiers
-Rules for battles of both small skirmish size and epic battle
-Advise and rules for extended campaigns on a grand scale or something more akin to Necromunda
-It even contains several pages of advise for using the setting for role-playing games

All of this for the very reasonable price of $25 and you get to use those reaper minis for a wargame.

In any case, I suppose that I should get to the topic of the post and ask you all about one of life's little mysteries that has been bothering me recently:

Why is it that Spaghettios with meatballs taste good and Spaghettios with sliced franks taste really bad. I mean, I am pretty sure that they use the same meat and all...

New games that require medium to large investment are often a hard-sell. Warlord is probably at least as cool as you say it is, but to really get into it not only do people have to diversify into which games they drop their cash, but they have to learn a new rules system, and then try to master it. It's just time and money is my guess...the game is probably a fun play.

I think the pseudo-meatballs have enough of an "Italian" flavor that they work better in the tomato sauce. Wink
