If you read comics in the late 80s and 90s, and if that reading included comics independent of Marvel or DC, then it is highly likely you'll recognize the title Dark Horse Presents.

From 1986 to 2001, for 158 issues, Dark Horse Comics published this anthology which helped turn Dark Horse from an obscure little company into one of today's biggest independent publishers.

Sin City had it's start in Dark Horse Presents. Hellboy and the BPRD were frequent features there. Famous movie and TV characters had features in the title, including Alien, Predator, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and The Terminator.

Legends of the early independent scene were occasionally hosted there, like Concrete, Roachmill, Flaming Carrot, Nocturnals, The Mask, Madman, Too Much Coffee Man, Bacchus, and the Next Men.

Featured creators included Mike Mignola, Paul Chadwick, Ed Brubaker, Frank Miller, John Byrne, Matt Wagner, Eddie Campbell, Art Adams, Paul Pope, Dan Brereton, Mike Allred, the Hernandez Brothers, and dozens of others over the comic's 15-year run.

For the last few years, the title has had a resurgence with it's MySpace Dark Horse Presents graphic novels, reprinting features shown on Dark Horse's MySpace page.

This April, though, to mark the 25th anniversary of the title, Dark Horse Presents returns to being a regularly published comic. It will be a bimonthly title with 80 pages packed with a variety of stories for $7.99 an issue. The debut issue features two prominent stories by classic DHP creators. Frank Miller will be introducing a new Xerxes story, featuring the historical antagonist from 300. The second feature will have the return of Paul Chadwick to his most popular creation: Concrete, a true DHP icon.

In addition to these two features, there will also be a Star Wars story by Randy Stradley, Paul Gulacy, and Michael Heisler, and other features by Harlan Ellison, Howard Chaykin, Neal Adams, Richard Corben, Michael T. Gilbert (Mr. Monster!), Carla Speed McNeil, Geof Darrow, Patrick Alexander, and David Chelsea.

If you recognize even half of those names or have any memory at all of Dark Horse Presents, then you know that this is going to be a big deal. I can't think of any comic-related item that has me more excited for 2011.

Here's a link to the Comic Book Resources story from which I got most of this information, and which includes pictures of the covers for #1 and even more great info about the new title:
