I am putting together a panzergrenaider army. Tell me what you guys think of what i want to get.

(3) Panzer Grenaider Platoons-465 points
Command HQ-40 points
(2) Brumbar's- 345 points
(2) HMG sections-145 points
Mortar Platoon-175 points
Infantry Gun Platoon- 110points
Scout Platoon 110 points
Assualt Troop-140 points

Total=1530 points

I would like some advice to if you guys think this is a good force. I am just beggining but have enough money to start a 1500 point army. Note that i already have a panzergrenaider platoon and an assualt troop.

Thanks For your Guys's Thoughts!

I looked at your list and it is a solid infantry list. Lets look at who you will play and the pluses and minus's of you force. Players in Spokane for the most part are armor heavy. You go to a tourny and winners will be armor heavy or a mix of combined arms. That means they can shift from right flank attack, to center, to left flank with a equal or at least prevent a penetration towards an objective. Ask your self, can I prevent or match an attack in these 3 areas. Lets take Brumbars first, they were created to take on dug in infantry or pillboxes or concrete defenses. Roll up ,get close ,pound them. In your list they are your armor. Offensive and defensive. Frontal armor of 9 is great, BUT!! sides of 5, slow, 8 inch move, unable to shift attacking or defending area. Bog on 1-2, 1/3 of the time they bog, so woods are out unless you are a gambler. ONLY ROF of 1, only 2 shots per turn and a range of only 24". Next 75 IG as AT guns? Look at there cost, now look at 3 pak 50s, ROF of 2 to ROF of 3. Do you have any other anti tank ability? You put the Brumbars in the middle, 75s on left or right flank, I can tell you where I am attacking, on the other flank, away from the 75s. HMGs are good, Panzer Grenadiers are good if you can screen the 251s to get into assault range. Mortars are good, especially for smoke. Assault troops, are only that, unless you are in a biult up area or where you can get close or assault from 251s, they get destroyed by fire. Only 8 " range. But the Fun of FOW is trying different combinations and find one you like. About the time I find one I like I change to a different mix. In all the tournys I have played in, I have never played with the same army twice. Always trying new combos. See you soon!

Thanks for your suggestions terry,

But i dont have hitlers fire Brigade for the info on the tanks that is part of the reason why i am running mainly infantry but if you can give me a list of an army that you reccomend that uses infantry and tanks. If not i think i would just use anti tank guns for knocking out enemy tanks.

First, there is nothing wrong with AT guns. In the past, I have used pak 50s and sometimes pak 75s but they get pricey. 88s are great but again you have to protect them and artillery loves to kill 88s. alot of people like stug 3s with 75mm guns. I like Panzer 3 js. ROK of 3 AT of 9, will take out most early allied armor. Then storm troop back into cover. In stalingrad book, you can add one captured KV1. Look at it, good armor and ROF of 2. You do inherit the russian restrictions to movement, but still for the price, very nice. You see alot of marders, good gun and cheap, no armor. You need to storm troop away with them. Stalingrad book has most of these options. I can make you a copy of the stats part of hitlers fire brigade, so you can look at the difference. You will also see the lone Tiger1 out there. Alot of points but only a few allied weapons can take it out. Many, many options, thats the fun of it.

It changes from day to day. right now I am back to British. I like some of there special rules, even though there tanks are easy to kill. The russians, i like there mass, its like playing Orks in 40k. The troops aren't very good but you get alot of them. If you are not rolling well the russians die in hordes. But thats what Stalin wanted. General Zuhkov said, the quickest way to clear a german mine field was to charge a battalion of infantry over it. Thats there idea of warfare. Loss of life is not a big concern. The US are a nice balanced force with alot of fire power. The germans have superior weapons , training and leadership. They lack numbers. So each one of the 4, I like for different reasons. I tend to play one for a while, then switch. I have never played Italians, but they also have some pluses. So it really comes down to what you like, some are more offensive. With russians you need to attack or with there poor shooting they just sit back there and die. Germans can sit back a bit if they want and trade shots with most armies. I like a force with both offensive and defensive capabilities. In case I totally blow deployment, I want the ability to correct it. To much infantry and you can't correct a mistake. They just move to slow. Thats why usually have the other guy deploy first, then you can see his intentions.
