Every Friday night we run a sanctioned FNM Type II tournament.
Play starts at 6:30pm and registration 15-20 minutes earlier.

Play is Swiss style until there is one Undefeated (ties don't count) who gets first.

$1.00 entry fee and ALL comes back out as Prizes.
Included into the Prizes are 4 FNM Foil cards that change each month.
There are at least 2 random Prizes every Friday if you stick around.

Store closes at 9 or at latest 11pm if the tournament goes longer.

Do you mean you run a Single-Elimination until there is a 'last man standing,' or Swiss? 😉 When using Swiss system I think the DCI pairings generator sets the number of rounds based on attendance, losses notwithstanding. (8-32 players, 5 rounds...more players = more rounds...etc...)

I think single elimination would really keep your attendance down, but I could be wrong. Embarassed

We run a slightly modified version of Swiss.
Everyone plays every round just like normal swiss, and players are paired with other players that they share like records with (eg 4-0 plays 4-0, while 3-1 plays another 3-1), also like normal swiss.

Our only difference is in how the Tournament finishes.
Regular swiss requires that 32-man tourneys to have 5 rounds.

Our tournaments end when there is One person undefeated, which most of the time is 5 rounds, but occasionally only 4 (eg round four ends with only one undefeated because the other game which should have resulted in a second undefeated was a draw).

This allows us to wrap up the tourney early every once in a while Wink

Hope that helped!

It does help. Winners play winners and losers play losers until someone in the top bracket is on top. Makes sense. Thanks much.
